Young Company was first developed by former Associate Artistic Director and Director of Education, Anita Maynard-Losh, to provide theatrical opportunities to young people in the world of Shakespeare performance. This endeavor took shape in the form of The Young Shakespeare Training Company. With the arrival of new Artistic Director, PJ Paparelli, and Director of Education, David Charles Goyette, Perseverance Theatre expanded the program to provide even further performance and training opportunities. In addition to Shakespeare in the Fall, young performers explored other classic writers from the world dramatic canon and develop their own work, hence the new moniker, Young Company.
Now under Artistic Director, Art Rotch, and Education Director Shona Strauser, Young Company is a six-week, after-school theatre program for youth ages 10-18, held twice a year. The fall project focuses on a classic theatre production, while the spring production features a piece created and produced by the students.
